About the Aerospace and Defence Sustainability Club |
The Aerospace and Defence Sustainability Club has evolved from two Resource Efficiency Clubs established in 2007 and funded by Envirowise and SEEDA. The Clubs provided an environmental review and a forum for 20 member businesses to deliver:
- Reduced environmental costs and impacts (average savings of £25,000 per year per company)
- Training and access to expert advice on environmental issues
- Sector specific environmental best practice standards
- A subsidised route to environmental management systems e.g. BS8555 or ISO 14001 (2004)
Reduced environmental costs were achieved through resource savings from improved energy management, waste management, process efficiencies, water use, legislative compliance issues and the opportunity to share good business practices with other companies in the aerospace and defence sector. Savings achieved by some of the members can be seen on the Case Studies link here.
Following the success of the Clubs but the cessation of public funding for them (due to DEFRA significantly cutting back funding on the BREW-Business Resource Efficiency and Waste- programme) the Aerospace and Defence Sustainability Club continues to provide support for Aerospace and Defence businesses keen to develop their sustainability credentials and explore opportunities for environmental good practice and cost savings through workshops, seminars, quarterly club meetings and access to other services, such as surveys or accredited training.
